New published article

I’ve been fortunate enough to have my article published in the Running magazine 2016 winter edition. Where I discuss the importance of getting the balance right between a healthy mind and a healthy body. Thanks to Amy and Claudette for making this happen.

Upon reading the article I’d like to hear your thoughts on it. Here is a link to getting the magazine.

Looking back I’ve often been told what I can’t do, or not to raise my head above the parapet and know my place. I’ve been criticised for my writing ability and the poor way I use language to express myself. But I’ve always believed in myself despite not having the evidence to disprove the criticism.

But it’s satisfying now to have the evidence to prove I was right to believe in myself.

“Find out who you are and figure out what you believe in. Even if it’s different from what your neighbors believe in and different from what your parents believe in. Stay true to yourself. Have your own opinion. Don’t worry about what people say about you or think about you. Let the naysayers nay. They will eventually grow tired of naying”. Ellen DeGeneres

Being criticised is a universal experience as we start to express ourselves, whilst trying to fit ourselves into general society structures.

On reflection although the feedback is harsh on first impressions, it’s important to see beyond first impressions and dig deeper, and you’ll realise that the feedback comes from a place of fear, anger, frustration. Despite first impressions the criticism really has nothing to do with you, and it’s a mirrored reflection, of the fears the naysayer holds themselves.

In times like this go back to what the best version of you is. Reconfirm what you know what you are, and what you are not.

“Remember six rules: Trust yourself, break some rules, don’t be afraid to fail, ignore the naysayers, work like hell, and give something back”. Arnold Schwarzenegger
